As I wrote in my last entry, 2009 was not a good year for me. I plan to make 2010 a better year. And part of it is due to my resolutions.

1. I am not going to put myself down anymore. Often, I will mock myself, denigrate myself, and often generally just make myself into less than I can be. This is a behavior that upsets my partners, and that has made me think much less of myself. I am not perfect by a long shot, but I work hard to be a good human being, and I have many good characteristics.

2. I am not going to let other people put me down or define me in ways that I am uncomfortable with. This includes people with theoretical authority over me. If they have constructive criticism, I welcome it. If they're just going to make me feel bad about myself, I will ignore them. If my friends just say negative things to and about me, then they are not my friends. If need be, I will remove them from my life.

3. I will spend more time and energy on the people who've shown willingness to spend time and energy on me. People who I feel just use me will also be called upon it as needed, and will be removed if needed. If this costs me groups of friends, which I believe is a possibility, then so be it. I have been saying for years that most of my friends use me to help themselves get better, then leave me. That trend ends now. If people disapprove of the friends I choose to keep around, that's their problem, not mine.

4. I will not let anyone, be it myself or other people, make me feel as bad about myself as I have over this past year. I don't care if writing it makes me arrogant, I know that I can be pretty damn awesome, and I will not apologize for that.

May you all have an amazing year.

I sincerely approve of these resolutions. More on that later.
